I found this "rare interview" from Joan Didion from the 1970's. It can't be too rare because it has more than 40,000 views. But, I found it interesting because Didion mentions that writing is the only way that she can be "aggressive." In context to her obvious political statements in The White Album, she is able to intertwine a specific location, political statements, and her personal narrative all in one place. In the interview, she also mentions that when she is writing, she feels like she is in control.

We have been talking a lot about creative nonfiction, and specifically, the way that Joan Didion utilizes this genre. Through my personal writing process, I have found that I sometimes end up writing something different than I intended. I liked this quote from Joan Didion because it's as if she writes in order to figure out what she wants to write about...Not just in creative nonfiction, but every genre of writing is tied to the person or people creating it. This genre is especially personal and reflective, but all writing provides the opportunity for exploration and discovery. And in the case of Joan Didion, an outlet to express political opinions and radical viewpoints.
