This is the sweatshirt I wore today. As you can see from the picture, it features "Broncos Football" in big, bold, three-dimensional letters. I walked around Sixteenth Street Mall and several people commented "Go Broncos!" before and during the game. Not only is the writing on my shirt a reflection and extension of my identity as a Broncos fan, but it serves as a tool for solidarity among other people who share similar interests or passions. Whether as a member of a book group, a follower of a blog, or someone who chooses to wear flashy sports team lettering on game day, writing allows people to express their personality and to unify people from different walks of life who would otherwise never cross paths. Writing is a tool for individuality and unity.
